| JACK THE RIPPER? - ‘FROM HELL’
Alan Moore is an acclaimed writer and performance artist whose work
often betrays his solid grounding in occultism. Moore is best known
for his work scripting comics, being one of the most influential creators
in the movement to transform comics from trivial juvenalia into an
artform with depth, suitable for appreciation by readers of all ages.
One of his greatest achievements to date is the nightmarish graphic
novel From Hell. It takes the infamous Jack the Ripper murders and
sets them against an occultic backdrop, highlighting the esoteric
geography of Victorian London. In particular, Moore presents the murders
as symbolic sacrifices in the eternal battle between the solar masculine
forces and lunar feminine forces, joining those theorists who believe
the Ripper killings were somehow connected to the cycles of the moon.
